About the Artwork
The Dendera Zodiac is a bas-relief from the ceiling of a chapel in the Temple of Hathor, carved in the 1st century BCE during the Ptolemaic period. It maps the constellations as the Egyptians saw them — blending native sky figures with Babylonian and Greek zodiac signs — held aloft by goddesses and pillars. The original is now in the Louvre; this design captures its full circular star-map in rich blues and golds.
