About the Artwork
Tutankhamun became pharaoh around age nine and died before twenty, around 1323 BCE. He was a minor king in his own time, but the discovery of his nearly intact tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 — gold mask and all — made him the most famous pharaoh in history. This design centers his iconic burial mask, with its nemes headdress and cobra-and-vulture crest, surrounded by hieroglyphic columns and the winged scarab.
