Van Gogh created "Bedroom in Arles" in 1888, during one of his most productive periods in southern France. The painting shows his modest room with its wooden bed, rush-seated chairs, and paintings on the wall. He wanted it to express "absolute restfulness." The simplified shapes and warm yellows and blues have made it one of his most recognized works worldwide.
