"The Birth of Venus" was painted by Sandro Botticelli around 1484-1486 for the Medici family in Florence. It depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after her birth from sea foam. The painting broke conventions of its time by presenting a full-length female nude as a mythological subject rather than a religious one. Botticelli's flowing lines and pastel colors created an idealized vision of beauty that has influenced artists for over five centuries. The original hangs in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
